don't know if I remember this correctly..didn't the government say that the Canadian Tamil Congress has suspected ties to the Tamil Tiger terrorist group? like funding and weapons?

if this is true...Canadian Tamil Congress could be using this opportunity to bring Tamil Tiger personal to Canada to escape charges. If they can pay 45,000 for the trip..one have to think where in the world do they get that kind of money. people in Sri Lanka is not rich, it is a Third World Country, average GDP is low.

In my opinion: "go away and be a law abiding citizen/person, if you want to come here do it properly. If you belong to the Tamil Tigers want to come here to continue your fight militarily or politically you are not welcome!"

According to a Globe and Mail article at least one of the men has family in Toronto. One mans relatives in toronto has hired a lawyer to represent one of the men and when asked how these men could come up with $45,000
some of the Tamil Canadians answered because some of they have families abroad that probably helped.

If these men have families here why did the families not sponsor them through legal means? If the family has the means to hire a private lawyer for one of these men who is their relative then they must have financial means to support them through a sponsership program. My guess would be because it's cheaper to pay the $45,000 up front to get them here and let them apply for refugee assistance then it would be to sponsor them legally and be responsible for them for a few years.

The Canadian Tamil congress in Toronto has a hotline set up and 25 of the men have phoned for help. Some of the Tamils have flown to Vancouver to support them, along with the spokesman for The CTC and a lawyer the organization has hired.

For starters the man whose family lives here should be supported by them if he is told he can stay, not the taxpayers.

I am curious as to whether the Canadian Tamil Congress recieves government funding as a non profit organization? They obviously make healthy profit if they can hire lawyers and fly people off to Vancouver.
