“How did Mad Sumith become a DIG”

1. This memo is about the two malicious, false, defamatory and unfounded news items given in your in Lanka news web in June 2012, titled “ DIG Sumith Edirisinghe forgets his past”  and “How did Mad Sumith become a DIG”
 2.On the first news item, this was an operation carried out under the direction of the UDA in removal of an unauthorized construction after repeated reminders to the owner to remove them. DIG Sumith Edirisinghe was present their as a peace officer to maintain peace and for the safety of everyone present. The decision to demolish the unauthorized structures were solely done on the orders of UDA authorities who were present at the site.   Your opening statement that there was a presence of over 500 police and army officers were present at the site is totally  false and exaggerated as your own photographs published with the news item  does not show the presence of so many officers. Any sensible person will bear testimony to this looking at the photographs. 
3. There was no such argument or exchange of threats with NimalPeris as mentioned in your report.  Had there been such an event NimalPeris would have been charged for obstruction of duty under the laws of Sri Lanka .He only requested for permission from the DIG to remove some of the items such as cement blocks and other construction materials lying at the site before being  damaged by the movement of demolition machinery. To this request DIG was humane and kind enough to grant him permission. 
4. There was also a news items irrelevant to the matters reported that in 1988-89 during the terror created by the JVP there was a road side bomb planted on Athurugiriya –Hokandara road and DIG Edirisinghe was a victim of that bomb. This again is false propaganda and Sumith Edirisinghe was not a victim of this incident and the said bomb was not planted on Athurugiriya – Hokandara road. This comment has no bearing on this event has just been published to insult the DIG.
5. Your statement that Mr. Sumith Edirisinghe sought help and refuge from NimalPeris during an inquiry against him in 1989 it totally false and a base less. He had no reason to seek help from Nimal Peris or anyone else as he did nothing wrong. Sumith Edirisinghe was not a supporter of NimailPeris to go after him for help and further you may be unaware Nimal  too was hiding at the time due to threats he received from the brutal and murderous JVP. This again is just brought in to insult the DIG
6. Your news items further states that he was employed in a gas bar in USA with the  help of NimalPeris is completely false and irrelevant as he was never employed anywhere in USA. It is true that he was away from Sri Lanka on vacation but that was not in USA and it was spent with his brother in Canada.
7.  The next news items is “how did mad Sumith become a DIG”. Here you go to a low and inhuman demeaning  level and disgraces his wife who passed away due to a motorcycle accident. She passed away due to an unfortunate motorcycle accident not as your fabricated diabolical and lie. There were many others who witnessed this accident and bear testimony to the fact it was an unfortunate death.
8. The fact that he was in Mulleriyawa hospital and received treatment for a mental illness is another lie and he never had any treatment from any hospital for mental illness.
9. He was promoted to the position of the DIG purely on his merits. As SSP Matara he worked with devotion and perseverance and earned his position meritoriouslyfor his devotion and seniority in service.

10.  What is written in both news items are not related to the issues, are not factual and are mere slang as used typically by your web site to intimidate and insult people who hold responsible positions. Please note this will not be tolerated and legal action is contemplated.
