Toronto, 28 March, (Asiantribune.com): Canadians have a great......Preaching Terrorists' Scripture respect for Freedom and Democracy, which is known to everyone in every nook and corner of the World. By creating a Charter of Rights, Canadians have proven themselves as pioneers of Freedom and Democracy and protectors of the same. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom 2 (B) very clearly states and protects the Freedom of Thought, Belief, Opinion and Expression, including Freedom of Press and other Media communication.

The Charter of Rights and Freedom cannot have two different standards at any point of time. If so, the core value of the Charter of Rights will be at stake and the Constitutional guarantee of Rights and Freedom is challenged. The recent high profiled visit by a supporter of Terrorism, Mr. Brian Seneviratne and the ban of the British Parliament member Mr. George Galloway, looks like the Charter of Rights and Freedom has two faces beyond any doubt.

Mr. Brian Seneviratne, a hardcore supporter of the world-renowned Terrorist organization, which is called as the Liberation Tigers of the Tamil Eelam (LTTE) also known as Tamil Tigers, has spoken in support of them in previous occasions, which is well documented and known to our authorities. His participation in Pongu Tamil speaks for himself and nothing is secret, but he was still allowed to enter Canada once again. If a person participates in an event where LTTE flags are flown in thousands, it is well understood for what he stands for.

If a person like Mr. Brian Seneviratne is permissible into Canada, why not Mr. George Galloway? The main argument being can the Canadian Charter of Rights be allowed to use to promote Terrorism on Canadian soil and will it be allowed to support Terrorist activities in a member state of the United Nations. To strengthen the arguments, I would like to quote Bill C-36, which begins with stating "WHEREAS Canadians and people everywhere are entitled to live their lives in peace, freedom and security." Does the word "people everywhere" include Sri Lankans living in Sri Lanka?

The continuation of the Bill C-36 also states "And Whereas these comprehensive measures must include legislation to prevent and suppress the financing, preparation, facilitation and commission of acts of terrorism, as well as to protect the political, social and economic security of Canada and Canada’s relation with its allies". If Canada could become an ally of Afghanistan and has an obligation to support Afghanistan to fight against terrorism, why not support Sri Lanka in its fight against terrorism?

In this case not only was he promoting and supporting Terrorism on Canadian soil, Mr. Brian Seneviratne also tries to create a rift between a UN member state and a Common- wealth partner. As he speaks boldly in support of Terrorist, he is also making every effort to create a communal disturbance between the Tamil and Sinhalese communities in Canada. This would ultimately wipeout our longstanding heritage of Canada, which is Multiculturalism the very fabric of our Canadian society.

To pinpoint, Jews and Arabs who chooses Canada as their home, live peacefully and in harmony on Canadian soil though political and religious differences exists. None from both communities has ever exchanged attacks verbally on each other, an example of the high morale of act practiced by Canadians, which Canada has taught to its immigrant communities, the highest quality ever practiced anywhere in the World. Can we allow this precious quality of Canadians to be destroyed by allowing people like Mr. Brian Seneviratne into Canada to preach hatred?

Canada, which is not only a role model for Rights and freedom but also a role model of multiculturalism to the World, should not make mistakes by allowing people like Mr. Brian Seneviratne to spoil the communal harmony and destroy the image of Canada.

I would strongly support the following words and action of Immigration Minister Mr. Jason Kenney "In this case, I believe folks that are supporting and promoting and helping terrorist organizations are not needed to visit Canada." These are firm words of a responsible Minister, whose words speak out loud, followed by the strong action to ban the entry of George Galloway, British Member of Parliament. The much thought and action of the Minister in taking every possible step to ban the supporter of Terrorism enter into Canadian soil has to be applauded.

If supporting Terrorism on Canadian soil by visitors to Canada was taken very seriously and action been taken by the Canadian government on a visiting MP, it has to be followed for all others who support terrorism. "We applaud the Canadian government for its explicit recognition that individuals who glorify terrorism, and promote hatred be denied access into Canada," said a statement from B'nai Brith's executive Vice-President, Frank Dimant. He requested Ottawa to review its Anti-Terrorism Act and "close all legal loopholes that would allow for the open glorification of terrorism".

The letter sent to Galloway by the Canadian High Commission in London last Friday says the British MP is "inadmissible" to Canada "on security grounds" under clauses C and F of Section 34 of Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. These clauses says that foreign nationals can be barred from Canada for "engaging in terrorism" or for "being a member of an organization that there are reasonable grounds to believe engages, has engaged or will engage" in terrorism or in subverting "or instigating the subversion by force of any government."

Will the Government of Canada follow the same rule on others who promote, engage, have engaged and will continue to engage in terrorism, and ban their entry into Canada to safeguard all Canadians and its allies throughout the world, "to live their lives in peace, freedom and security" as Bill C-36 states. The law makers should not be law breakers.
