What happened in the 18^th session of the UN HRC in Geneva?

There are many versions of a story spread by grassroots activists who attended the UN Human Rights Council sessions. But they attended only sessions following Mullivaighzal. The story refers especially to the 18^th session, which took place last September. Therefore it is my duty to tell my side of the story. Here, I do not have to mention how long we have attended these UN Human rights forums. Anyway, our longstanding work in the UN is a troublesome fact for a few grassroots activists, especially two who started attending the UN HRC after Mullivaghzal. These two appear to have the sole intention of sabotaging the work in the UN. These two individuals are Nimalan, who belongs to an organisation in London, UK, and Gary from Canada. I never met them before 2009. The first time I met them was in March 2009 in Geneva. Let me be frank with you.

As soon as Mulivaghzal was over, when the UN HRC had a special session on Sri Lanka, Deirdre and I attended this session. We met Gary and his wife Harani.

Gary put forward a request to us not to work on War crimes, but only on humanitarian affairs. We do not know who gave him this mandate or idea! Anyway, we rejected it and continued with our work.

Then we all agreed to have a press conference on 25^th May 2009 in the UN Press room. Gary said, his wife Harani, Deirdre and a medical Doctor from Canada would be on the Panel. We agreed to this and on the 25^th morning Gary came out with an idea of having a moderator among those three panellists and when we agreed, he said it should be Deirdre.

A few minutes before the conference started, Gary told Deirdre that her work would be only to introduce the panellists and not to answer any questions or speak in the press conference.

This enabled us to understand Gary’s agenda –‘chip off the old block’.

Anyway, we peacefully finished the press conference. That was the last day we had any discussion with Gary concerning any UN matters.

Deirdre may be non-Tamil but some of you may know her contribution to the UN lobby and matters relating to international conferences, etc. In the recent past she contributed to the ‘Cambridge review of International Affairs’ regarding the right to self-determination of Tamils.

But Gary deliberately did this because someone must have asked him to exclude Deirdre from UN work.

I met this joker Nirmalan only in March 2009 with Anton Ponrajaha of Switzerland and never saw him after a few other sessions.

When I met him last year, he was criticising Anton Ponrajah, Thanam and Senthil in UK, saying that those people are useless and prevented him from working. Also he asked me whether Anton and Thanam are related because their family names are Soosaipillai.

Anyway I noticed that Nimalan is a boaster, liar and is jealous.

He told me that he flies city to city like G L Peiris, lobbying for some organisation in London.

This is a joke. We have met many VIPs and head of states and it doesn’t work that way.

Never mind, being a Banker he may have enough money to travel city to city. Maybe for sightseeing.

Gary and Nimalan’s behaviour in the last 18^th session was very serious and obstructed our work and created problems among the Tamils in the UN. Also they both were motivating other grassroots activists to have problems with us.

Meeting organised by Canada

There was a meeting organised by Canada on 21 September 2011.

Even though Gary wanted to be the champion of this meeting, many others including me spoke in this meeting. However Nimalan and Gary appeared jealous of my intervention because in every meeting within the UN, I usually introduce myself as having worked in the UN forums on Sri Lanka for more than two decades. These two jokers are always jealous of this introduction.

Following the Canadian meeting, overnight, they worked out a text about this meeting, deliberately excluding my name from it. It was sent to TAMILNET as if it was a text from a Canadian organisation.

The following day I was alerted by one of their friends that these two jokers have deliberately excluded me from the news appearing in the Tamilnet.

When I went to the UN in the morning, I saw Gary and Nimalan seated together. When they saw me they started making sarcastic remarks. Ignoring this, I asked them whether they had sent a text to Tamilnet and why they had excluded my name.

Immediately, the joker Nimalan asked me, “whether I am worried about my PUBLICITY!” I told him, “yes, I want my publicity equally like others”.

This shows the intention of these two buddies, how their minds work in the UN! This proved that they have the intention of gaining and eliminating PUBLICITY!

In fact, my publicity has already been there for ages. These two jokers were hired to sabotage everything in the UN.

Later this matter was brought to the attention of Tamilnet and was rectified. An Ambassador and a few others agreed that Gary was the originator of this text.

‘You want your publicity’,

Well on the same day in the afternoon in the UN, Nirmalan called me to a corner along with a person called Nadesan. He told me not to accuse him about the news appearing in Tamilnet. Also he tried to put words into my mouth saying that in the morning I said that ‘I want my publicity’, it is all recorded in his phone.

 Immediately I corrected what he said, ‘if you have recorded it that is good, you asked me whether I want my publicity and I said ‘yes, equally like others’.

Then he questioned me: “What have you achieved here by coming all these years?” At this stage Gary joined him. Also he told me that many Diplomats had told him that my previous day’s speech was “useless”. This proves how he was jealous of me.

It is ridiculous to think that Diplomats were calling this Joker Nimalan to tell him what they felt about my speech! It appears that they all waited for the joker Nimalan to come to the UN to tell him about me! This shows his intention and narrow mentality.

I replied to all these comments promptly. Eventually he told me that “Fr Emmanuel told them many stories about me”. Immediately I phoned Fr. Emmanuel who told me a different version of the story. What this joker Nimalan said to others about Fr Emmanuel shows that this fellow has a hidden agenda - he is neither for ‘Tamil Nationalism’ nor anything positive for Eelam Tamils.

His remark about Fr Emmanuel proves their intentions of working in the UN HRC.

If all this was recorded in the phones of Nirmalan and Nadesan, they can play and show others who is right and who is wrong and who is worried about publicity.

On the following day, Joker gave two bottles of Whisky to Sunanda Desapriya in the UN seeking his support against me. This is a real shame. Giving Whisky bottle in the UN to media personnel – what a shame! This shows the determination of their lobby to damage others.

These two jokers are grouping some other people to form a coalition against us in the UN. There is a limit for their behaviour in the UN.

If they come to the UN, let them do their work and mind their business. Briefing Douglas Devananada’s aide in the UN Library to work against me, and their other activities, will not work in the UN, especially in Geneva.

Deliberately excluding others’ speech, spreading rumours, gossiping about others and creating coalitions with dubious intentions, is not a good reason to come to the UN.

This is for the information of those who are sheltering these two jokers.

In the past, even though we have had misunderstandings, we have all worked peacefully for more than two decades. These barbarians appear to want to get us all chased out of the UN building.

This leads me to think that if these two individuals have any feeling for the Eelam struggle or Human Rights or even Tamil Nationalism, they would have come to the UN HRC long ago, not waiting until everything is finished and now obstructing the usual work going in the UN.

GTV

Some of you will have heard about what happened during the question time in the GTV program on Sunday 4 December 2011.

There was a person who, for name and fame, used GTV for his own PUBLICITY to inform everyone that he had attended the session in the UN and had met me. He proudly said that he is a member of BTF!

If this gentleman really wanted to work with us, would this be made possible by telling the public via the GTV programme? This reveals an intention of creating more problems. This was a planned plot by birds of the same feather.

This person was dictating to me whom I should work with in Manchester! Who is he to take it on himself to direct our work? I have never heard or even seen any of these jokers during the long period of the freedom struggle or even at the last stage.

In a way I must thank him for this remark on the GTV program because now everyone knows why we do not work with unknown people and newly created organisations!

The most shameful thing is that he said on GTV that he is a member of BTF! This really surprised me. Was his remark said on GTV authorised by the BTF?

Neither Tamil Nationalism nor UN HRC was born overnight. Where were all these actors and jokers before? Why they have become all of a sudden? Is it to make or break?

Let the future decide on these matters.
